Supercars driver Chris Pither became the Bathurst 1000’s first major casualty, crashing at Forrest’s Elbow at the end of practice two.
The session was red-flagged and declared after Brad Jones Racing’s co-driver Pither slammed his Holden Commodore ZB into the outer wall as he prepared to begin the return journey to Mount Panorama.
Pither was driving at around 180km / h approaching the corner, before crashing and possibly causing severe damage to the right front suspension of the # 1 car. 96.

“It was actually hit very hard. Like a bad blow,” commentator Greg Rust said during the Fox Sports broadcast.
“Looks like it’s a bad hit on the front of that car.”

Pither’s crash followed an accident involving teammate Macauley Jones during the first test, in which the car was suddenly engulfed in smoke as it exited The Cutting.
Suspected cause was power steering problems.

The car returned to the session, but suffered more drama when Pither crashed, forcing the team into an overnight rebuild.
The Supercars will be back on track for free practice on Friday at 10:40 am (AEDT).
