The Total War: Warhammer the franchise has gotten crazier with each new iteration and Total War: Warhammer 3 is no exception. In a new blog post, battle designer James Martin details all the changes to the different types of battles. Standard battles remain the same, but battle currency is now more accessible, ability improvements, and unit size scaling.
Auto-resolve is also undergoing much-needed changes – you can now see how many casualties you will take as well as which units will be lost. As Martin notes, “We have made some improvements to our automatic testing system. This allowed us to collect better data, so it’s going to be a lot cleaner for automatic resolution to use and for us to balance the richness of the content. We have a lot more data to stream, it should be cleaner across the board, and we should have less random units that skew the automatic resolution completely.
Quest Battles are back and feature “bigger, better and more interesting designs” while Survival Battles replace what could previously be story battles. Speaking of survival battles, these are essentially skirmishes that take place in the Realm of Chaos. Along with offering the biggest battles in the franchise, players attack a Chaos Fortress and receive supplies that can be used to replenish health, improve unit stats, and more. Keep fighting and tougher demons will attack you.
Survival Battles are available for every faction, including Demon Lords. Realm of Chaos will also feature new types of terrain that can be quite dangerous, so you’ll need to be more careful (although choke points now have three or four crossings instead of two).
Total War: Warhammer 3 will be released later this year on PC. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
